Virtual Bass Enhancement
Proposal
For my final project, I wish to implement psychoacoustic bass enhancement on an audio file in Matlab using the principle of the missing harmonic. The principle of the missing harmonic states that a certain fundemental frequency that does not exist in an audio sample can still be psychoacoustically perceived if the integer harmonics of that fundamental frequency are present. There are limitations to the range of the bass response on smaller speakers which can be fixed by using this technique. I plan to explore this topic thoroughly while also writing code in Matlab to apply this approach to bass enhancement.
