Dandiophangia
The Second Shemp

Dandiophangia: Enlightened Mammals, except People.

The dandiophangia include cats, penguins, owls, squirrels, and the varieties of mice that do not have pink eyes [see note 1]. All members of this shemp have the ability to see in absolute darkness, make non-specific predictions of the future, and are poisonous if eaten by humans.

Etymology: from Greek, δανδιω (dandio) = fine, happy; φαναρι (phanari) = lantern.

Note 1: Many scholars insist that mermaids and shepherds are dandiophangia. This view is incorrect, as mermaids and shepherds are fictional characters and therefore not strictly living; the Strompumia is a classification of living things. [see note 2]

Note 2: It is for this reason that dead people are demoted to the fourth shemp.
