Book(s) for EEN537 Spring 2000
The book is very
strongly recommended. As always, I will not be basing the classes on
the book, but the book does give a good background and references
for all the important things we are doing. Even more importantly,
it has chapters on Prolog and Lisp. You will have to learn to use
at least one of those languages, and I am not going to devote weeks
and weeks of class time to them. Unless you already know Prolog
and/or Lisp reasonably well, you will need some kind of reference
for them at least. Other references are not impossible to find,
but our book is quite useful in its own right, so I would
definitely get it if I were in your position.
Artificial Intelligence (third edition)
"structures and strategies for complex problem solving" (subtitle)
George F Luger and William A Stubblefield
Addison Wesley (pub.) 1997-1998.
ISBN 0-805-31196-3
Don't let anyone trick you into getting an older edition. The second
edition (1993, gold coloured) is almost sort-of OK. The first edition
(1989, silver coloured)
is not. Ours, the third edition is blue, and has been improved
quite a bit.
