Mail Forwarding
If you use, or wich to use, rabbit as your main
email system, you do not need to do anything
special. You can use "pine" to access your mail
while logged in to rabbit, or you can set up
some PC software, such as Outlook, to access
rabbit as either a POP3 or IMAP server. Your email
address will be yourusername@rabbit.eng.miami.edu.
If you use a different system for email however,
you must set up your rabbit account to forward
email to your normal account. This is very easy
to do, and you must do it. I can not keep track
of everybody's weird email addresses, and it is
possible that at some time I'll need to contact
some of you unexpectedly.
This is what you have to do, if you do not use
rabbit to receive your mail, in order to make
rabbit automatically forward your mail to your
usual account: Use your favourite editor to
create a file called .forward Note the
dot at the beginning of its name, the dot is
an essential part of the filename. The file
should contain just one line, containing your
regular email address.
That's all it takes, one file called .forward
in your home directory on rabbit, containing
your correct email address. Then any email sent
to you@rabbit.eng.miami.edu will be sent automatically
to your correct address, and you won't miss any
important announcements.
Just remember, if you ever change your mail address,
update your .forward file.
