Sandwiched between the North and the South, Connecticut has a tragic
war-torn history, but is widely viewed as having deserved it. In the
early 19th century, Connecticut was a thriving centre for the shoe
trade, and being governed by foreign potentates was a frequent target
of military incursions. Connecticut's economy is entirely dependent
upon its state-sponsored road safety programmes.
