About Us

Welcome to the homepage of the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) at the University of Miami! HKN is the international honor society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), founded in October 1904 by Maurice L. Carr at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Its purpose is to recognize and promote fellowship among those in the field of electrical and computer engineering who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship, activities, leadership, and exemplary character.

Tutoring

HKN provides walk-in tutoring services in our office for many of the classes within the ECE majors. Check out our schedule in the "Tutoring" tab!

Career Development

We host events for networking as well as for skill-building to help students build their professional career.

To bring a sense of community, we host social events so that students can meet each other in a fun and relaxed environment.

Membership

Starting Spring 2024, HKN will have two types of membership: General Student Body and Honor Members.

General Student Body

Able to join HKN on Engage
Can participate in most HKN events
Can attend general body meetings

Honor Member

Everything a general student body member does
Recognized by IEEE as a national member
Must to be available to tutor at least 1 hour a week
Graduate with HKN stole and cord
Able to participate in HKN Conferences
Priority selection for any HKN events
Participate in initiation ceremony and dinner.

New honor members are selected every semester. You will receive an invitation and will be tapped if you are either in the top 25% of the junior class or the top 33% of the senior class. Class is decided by credits and not by how many years you've been at the university. However, you must have already taken ECE courses for at least one semester.
